Users continue to choose weak passwords, despite all the awareness and training efforts we subject them to. In this talk Dr Renaud will tell you about a 3 year study they engaged in, in order to test the impact of a behavioural economics technique, called nudging, to steer people towards stronger passwords.

Karen Renaud is a Scottish Computing Scientist working on all aspects of Human-Centred Security and Privacy in the School of Computing Science at the University of Glasgow. She is particularly interested in deploying behavioural science techniques in improving the security of systems, and in encouraging end-user privacy-preserving behaviours. She was one of five UK Cyber Security Fulbright Awardees for 2016/17. She has just returned from a 7 month stay at Mississippi State University in Starkville.
